July 2018 started with a bang! HMH Manager Hugh Barnard took advantage of current conditions and the metre of fresh powder to film some of our lucky clients enjoying a day in the backcountry. For more than five minutes he hung himself out of the open helicopter door to get some amazing footage, safely secured by a stable harness. The result was an epic video that shows a very special perspective of the run we call “The Aphrodisiac Trail”. It’s not hard to tell where the name comes from…
Our terrain has had a very stable snow base and great snow cover for the whole month of July. Fresh dumps every few days have made for some great skiing and snowboarding in light powder.
For Harris Mountains Heli-Ski chief guide, Mark Sedon, July was a month of “fantastic early winter skiing that has exceeded our expectations.”
The perfect conditions caused some extraordinary decisions amongst our clients. Mike from Sydney set a new record at the start of the season by skiing 44 runs in only 2 days. That's definitely the kind of adventurous spirit we like! Ben from Auckland decided to catch the first flight into Queenstown, ski 14 runs in less than 5 hours then caught the 2.30 pm flight back to Auckland. He was home in time to cook dinner for his kids! Don't we have great clients?
This month has seen us welcome back some of our most loyal clients, Wanaka locals Nat and Hutch as well as some new heli-skiers from China. With our new package structure that offers four different options from a 3 run to a 10 run day, we can now cater even better to the different needs of our customers.
July has also been the time for our front desks in Queenstown and Wanaka to get into the full hum of the heli-skiing season.
This year experienced staff Broni and Chris have been joined by some new faces to the HMH ground team. Their first challenge of the season was to organise the annual industry nights in Queenstown and Wanaka, to celebrate our 40th anniversary. It's always a great way to do some networking with the local ski industry and this year was no exception, we even gave away two heli-skiing trips and our legendary HMH Hoodies to some lucky winners!
July has offered a great start to the 2018 heli-skiing season and we can’t wait for it to continue into August! The weather forecast is looking good, we are expecting a few storms over the next few days that should bring us even more fresh powder! So what are you waiting for? Book the Heli-Ski experience of a lifetime!
