And just like that, spring has sprung… It’s been a season for the books and has done a good job at keeping us on our toes!
We kicked things off with one of the heaviest and lowest snowfall the Southern Alps has seen in 10+ years, it made for an impressive welcome back to winter, and to our overseas clients who we were finally able to have join us after 2 years of border closures...! We’re stoked to have you guys back and to have some accent variety back in the helicopters…
Our General Manager, Hugh Barnard, comments on the return of international clients: “It’s been great welcoming back our returning clients, including many who have spent multiple days and even weeks skiing with us, making up for lost time!”
August was an unusually stormy month and unfortunately brought with it some warmer temperatures. Nonetheless we managed to find great skiing, particularly throughout our Queenstown terrain, which was just as well as unprecedented demand saw us fully booked for most of the month. We had a combo of loyal kiwi clients developed over the last couple years, alongside the arrival of international guests. August also launched the exciting announcement of our On Mountain NZ Heli-ski giveaway, aaand we had a proposal in the field! Congrats guys.
It’s been fantastic having 2 generations of Kingstons on our guide team, Nick seems to be enjoying himself. We also welcomed back Jono Gillain to our Queenstown team, having spent the last few winters heading the SAR crew at Aoraki Mount Cook. (Your always in good hands here at HMH).
It’s been a challenging start to spring with a collection of warm fronts coming through at the end of August and first week of September, however we have managed a few excellent days out regardless and this cold front currently pushing through will bring some goods to play with. And the best part...? It’s not over yet! There’s plenty more to come. In the meantime, a huge thanks to everyone that has made this season what is so far, it’s been one for the books and we can’t wait to see how this chapter of Winter 2022 closes.
