AI has a unique perception of what Heli-ski in Lake Wānaka looks like... we thought we'd better debunk some other myths too!

1. I don’t want to jump out of a Helicopter 

Neither do we! Fortunately, there's no jumping involved in Heli-ski (unless you find a sick lip to hit). Our exceptionally skilled pilots will land the helicopter in a safe, flat spot where your crew can unload. At the end of every run, the machine will return to take you to the next run. Think of it as an epic private chairlift...

2. I’m not experienced enough to Heli-ski 

Heli-ski is not just for the pros – if you’re an intermediate rider and can confidently ski the blue runs at your home field, you’ll be away laughing! Harris Mountains Heli-Ski has exclusive access to a wide range of terrain, from easy rolling slopes for powder first-timers to challenging chutes and steep valleys for the more experienced. 3. I don’t know enough about skiing in the back country  

That’s what our epic guides are for - each of our guides have decades of experience and follow a strict safety protocol. Guides have a keen awareness of the constantly changing environment and how to mitigate potential hazards. Every day our team makes field observations and review snow-pit data to choose the best – and safest – spots for the day. You will be thoroughly briefed the morning of your trip and you’ll be in the care of some of the most accomplished and experienced mountain professionals in the world. 

4. I need special gear 

We will equip you with Avalanche transceivers and teach you how to use them, other than that it’s no different to what you would need on a typical day up the mountain.We recommend using wide-body or all-mountain skis –they are wonderful for those wanting to go longer and harder in more advanced terrain; if you don't have your own, have a chat with us, we can recommend a variety of local retailers.
