The Daily Dump Snow Report 14th Sept Video
September 16th, 2011North Face Crew Video
September 15th, 2011Amazing edit put together by filmer Tim Pierce, of The North Face skiers – Janina Kuzma, Fraser McDougall and Mitchy Greig - ripping some incredible lines on Mount Tyndall with us last week.
Read Tim’s summary of their awesome day filming, shooting and skiing sick lines below and check out the footage!
“The North Face NZ Team jump in a heli and go for a spin in the high country outside of Wanaka hoping to ski the southeast face of Mt Tyndall. After a brief 8am rendezvous at the Harris Mountain Heli office in town and a quick hit of caffeine, the team load up the chopper and fly into the upper Matukituki Valley, lifting up and heading deep into the surrounding mountains. With a solid snow pack, minimal risk of avalanches and a fresh cover of white fluffy stuff, they pick off lines from the heli like kids in candy store. Mt Aspiring and Rob Roy Glacier set the backdrop as the team hover above wild unskied faces pointing their fingers at where they’d like to go, the chopper banks and moments later they’re standing on top waiting to drop.”

Long time clients from Japan!
September 2nd, 2011Winter 2011 was the 13th for Mr and Mrs Saito to join us from Japan. They have heli skied with us almost every season since 1996 and we absolutely love them! Here are a couple of photos from their trip with us this year and some words from them about their experience. We’d like to say a huge thank you to Saito san for sharing their experience with us – we are always very excited to see you and ski with you each winter!

Some words from the lovely couple about their heli ski experience with us…
“We wanted to go to Queenstown and experience Heli-Skiing, and finally got the chance on our honeymoon. That was 15 years ago, and we have just finished our 13th heli-skiing season since our honeymoon with Harris Mountains Heli Ski! Every Spring we get excited about planning our trip to Queenstown, requesting time off work during the Japanese summer. During our stay in Queenstown we try to book as many days as possible with Harris Mountains Heli-Ski, every day if possible!
Why am I addicted to this?
The answer is, every time I go heli-skiing it takes me back to the very first time; the excitement, beauty, and exhileration of it. Every time I go heli-skiing I am blown away by the happiness I feel all day long. Each morning, I wake up early feeling like a kid at Christmas as I peek out the window to see if the weather is good enough to go Heli-Skiing. I sit on the edge of my seat waiting for the call from Harris Mountains to find out if we are flying. When the call comes that everything is going ahead the excitement grows, and I know it will last all day. We wait eagerly in the lobby to see who will be our guide today and where we will be skiing. Excitement continues to mount as we get to the staging area at the bottom of the mountain.
We board the helicopters, and in moments we are taking off for the first run of the day. When the helicopter drops us off on the top of the mountain and flies away we experience complete silence, peace, and tranquility in the middle of pure wilderness. The only thing we see for miles are beautiful peaks, and endless powder as we make fresh tracks down the mountain. We are the first to touch this snow, and it feels like floating, like sinking into soft cushions.
We return to the hotel in the evening, and even through dinner the excitement remains and we feel fullfilled. We go to bed hoping that we can enjoy the excitement of Heli-Skiing again tomorrow. At Harris Mountains Heli-Ski you can always expect the best skiing conditions possible, friendly welcoming staff, and experienced friendly fun guides. This all adds to the charm we look forward to every year. We will continue to go to Harris Mountains Heli-Ski every year to experience the happiness we love all over again. It is the highlight of our year.”
