Wanaka based Harris Mountains Heli Ski guide Whitney Thurlow has been hard at work in his role as chief guide for Aspiring Guides, all summer long down here in New Zealand. He’s looking forward to a trip to Peru in May where he’ll be exploring the mountains and kite surfing.

During the New Zealand summer many of our heli ski guides and pilots head north chasing an endless winter in exciting mountainous locations all over the world. This summer saw pilot Nigel Gee and HMH guide Roger Kingston travel to India to work for Himachal Heliski in the Himalayas. Check out the fantastic photos they sent, posing with monks no less!

Check out this compilation of footage of some of our most fun moments and epic backcountry powder turns from the 2011 heli ski season in Queenstown, Wanaka and Mount Cook. We’d like to say a huge thank you to all our clients for tearing up endless powder lines with us during the season! We can’t wait to see you all again next winter. Enjoy the video!
October has arrived with spring sunshine here in the beautiful Southern Lakes region, and we are happy to report that we are still operating. We have fantastic spring corn snow conditions throughout our terrain and plenty of coverage. It’s very very fun out there! We even had a fresh top up of snow from a storm a day ago which deposited a further 10cm+ of fresh snow in our backcountry terrain.
We also have a fantastic LOCAL’S DISCOUNT and season pass holder’s rates available just now – just ask our friendly team at either our Wanaka or Queenstown office and they will get you dialled in with a sweet discount.
The guys from Holmes Consulting Group joined us for a heli ski charter at the end of August and the just sent us this really awesome helmet cam footage of their day. You really get a great idea of the vast and varied terrain we have available. These guys got a really mint sunny day to make the most of their charter and got lots of runs in with a cheeky lunch stop at the Whare Kea Lodge Chalet, located in our Buchanans heli ski terrain.
Thanks to the recent snow storms conditions are still really epic throughout our terrain. The ski coaches from Treble Cone, Wanaka tore the mountains to shreds with us on 20th September. It was awesome, check out the video for yourself to see these guys in action in the North Harris Mountains backcountry.
As you can see in the opening shots of our 16th September video, our terrain really is epic! Big lines on big mountains and endless options to suit every level of skier, telemarker and snowboarder. Read more about our vast terrain which covers Queenstown, Wanaka and Mount Cook here on our website.
Enjoy the video and don’t forget to share your own heli ski vids and photos over on our Facebook page.
We’ve seen so many fantastic videos made by our clients this season! Great to re-live all those super fun powder turns again and again. Thanks to Trav for this footage filmed in early September.
